NEWS FROM THE CAFETERIA
Milk is served daily in the school cafeteria. Children have the choice of regular milk, 2% milk, or 1% chocolate milk. Each week the school cafeteria serves about 3250 cartons of milk. Milk is a very good source of Vitamins A and D. It has calcium which helps build bones and makes them stronger.
Ice cream is a dessert and a favorite one in our school.. We sell about 288 ice cream items weekly. We serve ice cream as the dessert occasionally, and when we do, we serve about 650 servings that day.
Cheese is another favorite food. The children like cheese on their salads, pizza, tacos, toast, sandwiches, hamburgers, and anything else they can find to put it on. They will even take cheese and eat it plain.
Butter is not used in our cafeteria. We can not afford to use it, but butter has an excellent taste and can be used to flavor many foods.
Dairy products have many uses and it would be hard to live and cook without them. Farms are becoming scarce because people cannot make a living on them. They are being purchased by people to build homes and it is a concern that eventually there will be no farms to supply milk and other dairy products.
